The use of botulinum neurotoxin in the dental office to treat facial pain and other orofacial pathology has taken a backseat to its cosmetic usage. Yet this neuromodulator has enormous value when used to alleviate TMD symptoms, headaches, orthodontic relapse and reduce heavy bite forces associated with failed implant integration. This presentation will explore the multiple ways botulinum neurotoxin can prove invaluable in the dental office when used to treat the symptoms of various oral-facial pathologies.

Dr Lisa Germain is an American Board-Certified endodontist in private practice in New Orleans, Louisiana. She received her DDS Degree from the University of Maryland and her specialty degree in Endodontics as well as her Master of Science from Boston University School of Graduate Dentistry. She is a fellow of both the Misch Implant Institute and the American Academy of Oral Implantologists While practicing endodontics, Dr Germain was asked to diagnose and treat many patients suffering from facial pain that was not odontogenic in origin. This gave her the impetus to pursue a special interest in the diagnosis and treatment of facial pain syndromes not caused by a toothache. Her passion and expertise in the use of botulinum neurotoxin for therapeutic use, as well as cosmetics, grew from this challenge. She is the author of the textbook, “Cosmetic Injectables and Therapeutics- the Ultimate Guide for the Dental Office” published by Edra Publishing. Recently she launched botoxbootcamp.com so that she could help train and mentor other dental professionals in this discipline.
Dr Germain lectures nationally and internationally on both botulinum neurotoxin use for the dental practitioner and endodontics. She is very proud to serve as Clinical Director for DC Dental Company where she developed a webinar series that produces bimonthly lectures devoted to continuing education for clinicians on the most cutting-edge information available in the field of dentistry. She is the author of multiple journal articles, member of numerous dental organizations, and has been named a top educator, by the publication “Dentistry Today” for the past decade. Her opus magnum is a children’s book which she both wrote and illustrated called Santa’s Christmas Eve Toothache. It is available on Amazon.com.
