Historically, alveolar ridge preservation and development have focused on volumetric changes with little attention to tissue quality . The aim of this presentation is to discuss disadvantages, and realistic short- and long-term expectations of traditional methods of alveolar ridge development for implant therapy and to discuss advantages of contemporary methods of alveolar ridge development, designed to maximize tissue quality.
Upon completion of this session, the attendees should be able to:
-
Understand the rationale for absorbable scaffolds in tissue augmentation procedures.
-
Compare material selection based on material properties and features.
-
Implement proper management of complex alveolar ridge defects.
